For three years between, 1975 and 1978, I was fortunate enough to live in Kenya. They were three of the happiest years of my life. During this time I worked as a volunteer with the National Museum of Kenya where Richard Leakey was the Director of the Museum. As a result of this opportunity I became very interested in the tribes of East Africa. Being fortunate enough to be able to travel into many of the tribal areas of the country I was commissioned to prepare for two solo exhibitions in Nairobi during this period; one at the French Cultural Centre and one at the Firmin Gallery. Much of the painting for the exhibitions was undertaken at Paa Ya Paa Gallery in Nairobi where Elima Njau provided me with facilities to prepare the work for the exhibitions. Artists came fom all over Africa to work at Paa Ya Paa with Elimo Njau, one of the great African artists. My research travels in preparation for the exhibitions took me all over Kenya. I feel blessed to have been given such an opportunity during my life.
